Health Route Service to be up and running from September. (19th July 2010) Minister for Lifelong Learning, local TD Seán Haughey, has welcomed the news that Dublin City Council is hoping to introduce Health Route on a pilot basis from September of this year.
The pilot project will operate in a similar manner to Shop Route and will allow customers aged 65 and over to attend for medical appointments or have the opportunity to have prescriptions filled. It will run across the North Central Area and information collected will be used to build a case for future funding. The service will be marketed through the existing Vantastic Shop Route and provision will be made to allow carers to accompany their clients.”
“Vantastic has been successful in its application for funding to the Social Inclusion Unit of Dublin City Council. While September is the anticipated start-up date, bookings will be taken from August”.
“This is another positive development of the successful joint venture between Dublin City Council and Vantastic and I would like to congratulate both parties on this important latest initiative. Any measure which encourages older citizens to continue to be active within their own community is something which merits support and so will be warmly welcomed”.
