Housing Grant Schemes open again. (06th July 2010)

Dublin North Central TD, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Seán Haughey, has welcomed the announcement by Dublin City Council that it is now accepting applications for its Housing Grants Schemes.

These consist of the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme, which caters for the needs of people with a disability, the Mobility Aids Grant, which covers basic works to address mobility problems associated primarily with aging, and the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme, which is available for owner occupiers aged 60 years and over, living in accommodation requiring necessary repairs or improvements.

Because of the large number of applications received last year, no new applications have been accepted since 17th. July 2009.

“This is excellent news for our older citizens and I know from first-hand experience that many of them were disappointed to have missed the July 2009 cut-off. I have no doubt that there will be great interest in these Schemes once again this year. I would strongly urge anyone considering applying for a grant to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Dublin City Council has indicated that, depending on the volume of applications, it may prove necessary to close the scheme again within a short time interval”.
