Haughey opens new Hospital Buildings in Clontarf. (01st July 2010) Dublin North Central TD, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Seán Haughey, yesterday performed the official opening of the newly developed Incorporated Orthopaedic Hospital of Ireland.
The Orthopaedic Hospital moved to its present location off Castle Avenue, Clontarf in 1942. This new hospital development cost €16.6M, was completed on time and within budget and included replacement of an existing 32 bed ward and the x-ray, physiotherapy, outpatients, occupational therapy and social work departments.
Two additional 32 bed wards have also been provided together with a new main entrance, reception and foyer. The main kitchen, stores and dining area were replaced and a new oratory, mortuary, car park and landscaped grounds added. The hospital last month opened one of its new 32 bed wards and will have a bed capacity of 160 when the second new ward opens in 2011.
“It is a great pleasure for me to perform the official opening of this excellent facility. I have a long association with this Hospital having previously served as a member of its Board of Governors from 1999 to 2003. Like many others I know from my experience as a local public representative of the excellent care and treatment which the Hospital provides for the many patients who have availed of its post surgery care and rehabilitation.”
“The Hospital has come a long way since its establishment in the 19th. century and continues to respond to patient needs over that time. I am delighted that it maintains its orthopaedic remit while also now providing step-down sub-acute services for interim care patients from the Mater and Beaumont Hospitals”.
“The Hospital provides a health service second to none for its patients and continues to go from strength to strength. I would like to congratulate all those involved with this latest initiative and to wish the Board of Governors and staff of the hospital continued success in their new surroundings”.
