Rent review move a welcome development. (05th March 2010)

Minister for Lifelong Learning Seán Haughey T.D. has welcomed the announcement that a Working Group has been established to look at the issue of commercial rent reviews.

“I have been contacted by constituents who have suggested that upward-only rent reviews are an anomaly in the current economic environment which has seen a significant drop in property values. The move to establish the Working Group is opportune and will investigate how matters of concern relating to existing leases can be examined.”

“I believe that this move will be greeted with approval by business owners, following as it does the ban on upwards only rent reviews for new leases. Among the items that will be considered will be the arbitration process and the adequacy of information available to all parties. It is hoped that the Group will report before the end of June 2010”.
